fanctrlplus2: stop rewriting the config lock on flash every 10 s (#19) - #20
Conversation
array_monitor.sh opened .config.lock with '>', which truncates the file and updates its mtime on every 10-second pass while the array is started: a write to the USB boot device each time. Append mode takes the same flock without touching the file. The install script also started array_monitor.sh after 'rc.fanctrlplus2 restart', whose start() already launches it, so two monitors ran after every install and boot.
📝 Walkthrough
Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to Installations from the raw manifest can still start a second monitor after the service restart. Synchronize the generated manifest before distributing the change; the impact is bounded to this install path. Pre-merge checks |

flock state lives in the kernel, so the lock file only needs a path both sides agree on. /var/run is RAM on Unraid and root-only, so taking the lock never touches the flash drive, not even to create the file. The install script removes the old lock from /boot.

Fixes #19.
array_monitor.sh: take the settings lock with9>>instead of9>.>truncated.config.lockand bumped its mtime on every 10-second pass while the array was started, which wrote to the USB boot device. Append mode takes the same flock without touching the file. The PHP side already opens it withfopen('ce'), which does not truncate.plugin.j2: drop the unconditionalnohup array_monitor.sh &afterrc.fanctrlplus2 restart.start()already launches the monitor, guarded bypgrep, so every install and boot ran two monitors.fanctrlplus2.plgis regenerated from the template at release.Verified: with a copy of the monitor pointed at temp paths, the HEAD version left the lock at size 0 with a fresh mtime after 1 s, and the fixed version left size and mtime unchanged while still calling rc start. An append-mode fd still blocks while another process holds the lock. The full suite passes (28 files).
Summary by CodeRabbit
Follow-up commit: the lock moved from
/boot/config/plugins/fanctrlplus2/.config.lockto/var/run/fanctrlplus2.config.lock. flock state is held by the kernel, so the file only needs a shared path./var/runis RAM on Unraid and writable only by root (unlike/tmp). The PHP helper andarray_monitor.shboth use the new path, and install removes the old file from/boot.FCP_CONFIG_LOCKoverrides the path for the backup test, since CI cannot write/var/run. Verified: while PHP held the lock, the monitor'sflock -non the new path was blocked, and no lock file was created in the config directory.
