Installation

To run this project locally, follow these steps:

  1. Clone the Repository:
    git clone https://github.com/yourusername/resume-roaster.git
    cd resume-roaster
  2. Set Up a Virtual Environment (optional but recommended):
python -m venv venv
source venv/bin/activate  # On Windows use `venv\Scripts\activate`
  1. Install Required Packages:
pip install -r requirements.txt
  1. Set Up Environment Variables: Create a .env file in the root directory and add your Groq API key:
GROQ_API_KEY=your_api_key_here

Usage

  1. Start the Flask server:
python app.py
  1. Open your web browser and navigate to http://127.0.0.1:8080.
  2. Upload your resume in PDF format and click "Begin Roasting!" to receive your roast.

How It Works

  1. File Upload: The user uploads their resume in PDF format through the web interface.
  2. PDF Parsing: The application extracts text from the uploaded PDF using a PDFminer library.
  3. Resume Check: The application checks if the uploaded document is a valid resume using predefined keywords.
  4. Roast Generation: If the document is a valid resume, the extracted text is sent to the Groq API, which generates a humorous roast.
  5. Markdown Rendering: The roast response is converted from Markdown to HTML and displayed on the frontend.
