chip8

My take on a CHIP-8 Interpreter that automatically configures itself based on the supplied ROM. Screenshot_20250928_164910

building

Get yourself a copy of the dependencies (which all use cmake)

mkdir vendored
cd vendored
git clone https://github.com/libsdl-org/SDL.git
git clone https://gitlab.com/iniparser/iniparser.git
git clone https://github.com/DaveGamble/cJSON.git

Note that SDL requires several system packages you might not have installed. Check out their build documentation if you get build errors.

Use my top level CMakeLists.txt

mkdir build
cd build
cmake ..
make

resources

The chip8 community, as well as the wider EmuDev community is fantastic. There are many resources and tools to help get beginners started.

credits

this project was greatly assisted by all the open source libraries and code I used and all the help from the people in the emulator development discord. I really appreciate it. Hopefully once I have more skill I'll be able to give back to the community
