RemoteFX
RemoteFX is defined in:
- [MS-RDPRFX]: Remote Desktop Protocol: RemoteFX Codec Extension
- [ARLGR]: Adaptive Run-Length / Golomb-Rice Encoding of Quantized Generalized Gaussian Sources with Unknown Statistics
Windows 7 SP1 to Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 (RSDH): mstsc_remotefx.zip
RemoteFX can be enabled in the Remote Desktop Session Host. While this deployment scenario is the most trivial, it is not the best: in this case, no GPU acceleration is used and you don’t get the complete RemoteFX experience. If you are using a virtual machine, or do not have hardware that meets the minimum specifications for a VDI deployment, I suggest you try this one first.
Deploying Microsoft RemoteFX on a Remote Desktop Session Host Server Step-by-Step Guide
This is the full-blown RemoteFX deployment, but requires more work and also more powerful hardware. Since Hyper-V is required, Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 will need a physical machine with a processor that supports Intel VT. In this scenario, the GPU is used for RemoteFX encoding, so you need a supported graphics card as well.
