Dataset

The information presented on this app is updated daily from the data sources (See below). Many excellent COVID logistics tools are available online, including those run by the WHO and Johns Hopkins University. This work aims to accompany these excellent resources with the inclusion of vaccination data to get insights about the current infection rate and how the vaccination drive is going in different parts of the world, including the timeline function and the ability to add daily cases.

Background

In December 2019, various severe cases of respiratory illness were reported in the city of Wuhan in China. It emerged as a new type of virus called severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) commonly referred to as coronavirus or COVID-19. It soon spread beyond China's borders in mid-January 2020. A year and a half later, millions of cases and deaths worldwide, and the virus is still evolving.

Some of the questions set out to be answered by the information on this app are:

  1. What’s the current rate of this outbreak?
  2. Are the efforts of controlling the spread working?
  3. Is the vaccine drive helpful in decreasing the rate?

Data Sources

  1. Covid-19 cases: Johns Hopkins University Center for Systems Science and Engineering (JHU CSSE).

  2. Vaccines data: Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory, Sheridan Libraries, the Center for Systems Science and Engineering in the Whiting School of Engineering, and the Esri Living Atlas Team. Expert insights are provided by epidemiologists, vaccinologists, and clinical practitioners from Johns Hopkins Medicine and the Center for Health Security in the Bloomberg School of Public Health.
