Script Details

Variables

  • websites: An array of websites to check.
  • log_file: The file where logs will be written.

Functions

  • send_notification(website, message): Sends a notification with a given message for a specified website.
  • check_ssl_certificate(website): Checks the SSL certificate for a specified website, logs details, and sends notifications if necessary.

Logging and Notifications

  • Logs are written to ssl_check.log.
  • Notifications are sent using the send_notification function. Currently, this function prints to the console but can be modified to send emails or alerts.

Example Output

Thu Jun 23 14:23:45 UTC 2024: SSL certificate for https://google.com issued by C=US, O=Google Trust Services LLC, CN=GTS CA 1C3, expires on Jun 22 14:23:45 2024 GMT (in 29 days)
Thu Jun 23 14:23:45 UTC 2024: Warning: SSL certificate for https://google.com is expiring in 29 days

Customization

Modify the websites array to include the websites you want to check. Customize the send_notification function to integrate with your preferred notification system (e.g., email, SMS, Slack).

Disk Usage Monitoring and Backup Script

This Bash script monitors disk usage for a specified directory and compresses files when usage exceeds a threshold. It also logs messages and alerts.

Features

Monitors disk usage for a designated directory. Compresses files into a tar.gz archive when usage exceeds a configurable threshold. Stores compressed backups in a designated directory. Logs monitoring and compression activities to a file (disk_usage_alert.log). Sends alerts to the console for critical events.

Usage

Edit the script:

  • Open the script (disk_usage_monitor.sh) in a text editor.
  • Update the following variables according to your needs:
  • MONITORED_DIR: The directory to monitor for disk usage (default: /home/pruthvibhat/dummyMonitor).
  • BACKUP_DIR: The directory to store compressed backups (default: /home/pruthvibhat/dummyBackup).
  • THRESHOLD: The disk usage threshold in percentage (default: 5).
  • LOG_FILE: The file to store log messages (default: disk_usage_alert.log).

Make the script executable:

chmod +x disk_usage_monitor.sh

Run the script:

./disk_usage_monitor.sh

Notes

  • This script requires Bash to run.
  • The script creates the backup directory ($BACKUP_DIR) if it doesn't exist.
  • Modify the script for additional features or customization as needed.

Additional Considerations

  • Cron Job: Schedule the script to run periodically using a cron job (e.g., hourly, daily) for continuous monitoring.
  • Email Alerts: Extend the send_alert function to send email notifications for critical events.
  • Error Handling: Consider adding more robust error handling for compression failures.
