HowToContributeToCalagator
Ways you can contribute to the project
**Labels:**Featured
While open source software wouldn't exist without the code, a number of tasks that keep this project running require no programming skills, and can be done by any motivated person with basic internet skills, such as adding events, and site gardening.
If you're not on the general mailing list, get on it. http://groups.google.com/group/pdx-tech-calendar
If you're in the Portland area, come to a code sprint, meet some of the contributors, and find out what we're working on. This is a great way to get a sense of the project. Code sprints are announced on the mailing list, and on Calagator.
Development software requirements (What you'll need to install, and known problems)
How to submit a patch (Includes information on getting the current source from the repository)
Our issue tracker is at http://code.google.com/p/calagator/issues/list.
A good way to get started is to browse the issues tracker, and add details, research, and wireframes where lacking. You can also help by tagging and categorizing reports. Some issues involve design and layout decisions, and need support from people with HTML/CSS skills. Some issues need more general research and decision-making about functionality.
One set of tasks anyone can help with is site gardening. Click through to our blog to find out how to assist with this. We also need help squashing duplicate entries created by importing similar items from different sources. (TODO: write documentation for duplicate squashing)
Add events that you're organizing or attending if they aren't in the system yet. From the Calagator Outside Portland FAQ:
What events should be posted on Calagator?
Anything in the Portland Metro Area that might be of interest to local technologists. If you're in Portland, and you consider yourself a technology person, it's safe to add events you think your peers would like to attend. If both of those things aren't the case, please ask someone who matches for a second opinion first.
You can also edit events to add more information (such as a venue address, or the url for the organizer).
