Document the new set of Liberty container images based on UBI Micro (26.0.0.9) #8499
Document the new set of Liberty container images based on UBI Micro (26.0.0.9+)
More details including the list of new container image tags to follow....
Please describe the problem you are having with the documentation. Is information missing, inaccurate, or unclear? Tell us about the context where you encountered the problem so we can understand how to address it.
Replaced icr.io/appcafe/open-liberty:kernel-slim-java25-openj9-ubi-minimal with icr.io/appcafe/open-liberty:kernel-slim-java25-openj9-ubi-micro
Replaced "Avoid trouble by using an image based on UBI Minimal instead of UBI Standard." with "Avoid trouble by using an image based on UBI Micro or UBI Minimal instead of UBI Standard."
Added UBI Micro images above the list of UBI Minimal images. Same number of items as -minimal, but use -micro instead as the suffix.
Changed the sentence under "Fix pack version" to "Open Liberty quarterly release versions end in .3, .6, .9, or .12. For example, if the latest Open Liberty release is 26.0.0.9, then the 26.0.0.6 and 26.0.0.3 releases are also maintained in ICR. To pull one of these release versions instead of the latest, add your chosen release version to the beginning of any of the kernel-slim or full image tags in the previous list. For example, if 26.0.0.6 is a recent quarterly release, you can pull an image that includes the 26.0.0.6 release with a Semeru distribution of Java 25 by specifying the 25.0.0.6-full-java25-openj9-ubi-micro tag."
Changed sentence from "Liberty images based on Universal Base Image (UBI) Minimal include JRE of IBM Semeru Runtime 25, 21, 17, 11 or 8 or IBM Java 8." to "Liberty images based on Universal Base Image (UBI) Micro or Minimal include JRE of IBM Semeru Runtime 25, 21, 17, 11 or 8 or IBM Java 8."
Added mentions of "Micro" or "-micro" under Base image type.
Edited the latest and beta definitions to use "Micro" or "-micro" instead of "Minimal" or "-minimal"
@jantley-ibm As discussed, please go ahead and revert the above Open Liberty doc changes. Open Liberty won't have UBI Micro support in 26.0.0.9. Thank you.
@leochr The changes associated with this issue will remain in draft (i.e., not reverted), but the branch created for the PR will not be promoted to staging/production for 26.0.0.9.

@jantley-ibm As discussed in Slack, this may have to be reverted if the UBI Micro based images for Open Liberty are no longer targeted for 26.0.0.9.
