Enable resident MiniMax-H3 T2AV inference with pre-quantized W8A8 main-transformer projections on Apple M5. The Metal kernel handles H3's native K=5376 widths without K padding or weight dequantization. A standalone converter, scope-aware checkpoint validation, resident loader, configuration and launch entry point provide a complete inference path.

The full dit_proj profile quantizes FC1, FC2, Q, K, V and attention output in all 50 main blocks: 300 Linear operators. AdaLN, pre/post projections, the text refiner, text encoder and VAEs retain their existing precision. Fused QKV remains disabled. Optional narrower profiles support accuracy ablations.

The opt-in MPS resident loader reads DiT and BF16 text weights directly into CPU-visible MPS allocations without retaining host weight copies. The text path selects the native 50-layer prefix from the released checkpoint index; unused suffix layers and the vision tower are excluded. T2AV can defer eager loading of the vision tower and processor. CUDA fusion imports are deferred until the corresponding backend is used.

Validation

  • 23 regression tests passed on MPS, with no skips, including CPU INT32 references for native INT8 output, native-width/tail/layout handling, checkpoint conversion and direct resident storage adoption.
  • Standalone conversion preserved all 338 unquantized tensors byte-for-byte. Source/output shard hashes, INT8 weights and finite positive FP32 per-channel scales were checked.
  • Matched BF16/INT8 generation on three prompts; final latents and decoded video/audio were finite. All six representative clips decoded successfully.
  • Four repeated canonical generations per mode reused the resident components and produced identical output hashes within each mode. An independent production launcher produced the same INT8 video.

Performance observations

Mac Studio (Mac17,15), Apple M5 Ultra, 36-core CPU, 80-core GPU, 256 GB, macOS 27.0.1, PyTorch 2.14.1. Turbo merged checkpoint, 544x960, 124 frames, 24 fps, four steps, seed 42, same prompt. Each mode ran serially with one warmup and three measured resident requests; ± is sample standard deviation.

Metric BF16 INT8
Four-step DiT synchronized wall time 58.589 ± 0.506 s 47.511 ± 0.019 s
Full generate() 73.718 ± 0.540 s 62.149 ± 0.056 s
DiT weight payload 61.728 GiB 43.795 GiB
Sampled MPS current maximum 117.306 GiB 100.194 GiB
Sampled MPS driver maximum 124.564 GiB 107.693 GiB

DiT latency decreased 18.91% (1.233x); full generation latency decreased 15.69%. Memory maxima are 200 ms observations across initialization, warmup and canonical requests, not exact peaks. Native macOS monitoring was used; strict per-process GPU exclusivity was unavailable.

The final PR checkout was revalidated on the same M5 Ultra: all 23 tests passed without skips, and the production entry point reproduced the reference INT8 output hash. The shader and inference computations match the measured implementation; the figures above are the matched three-run measurement, not a new benchmark of the documentation/formatting cleanup.

Supported and tested scope

Single-device resident MPS T2AV with already merged Turbo weights, Apple M5 or newer, PyTorch 2.14+ and compatible Metal libraries. Mixed INT8 disk streaming, tensor parallelism, fused QKV, other task types and native CUDA behavior were not validated in this change. The resident loader rejects incompatible offload/lazy-loading/runtime-LoRA combinations.

Quantization changes generated pixels and waveforms relative to BF16. Seven-frame PSNR for fox/portrait/city comparisons was 14.54/19.62/13.28 dB. These are difference measurements, not perceptual acceptance thresholds.

Canonical benchmark prompt (seed 42)
integrated_multimodal_description: [Shot 1] A cinematic red fox walks through a snowy pine forest at dawn. The camera tracks beside the fox as its paws leave crisp prints in fresh snow and warm sunlight breaks through the trees. overall_soundscape: Soft wind moves through pine branches, snow crunches underfoot, and distant birds call gently. non_diegetic_music: A quiet orchestral score with warm strings slowly rises.

Walkthrough

This PR adds INT8 Metal checkpoint conversion and MiniMax-H3 model support on MPS. It updates INT8 GEMM shape handling, adds resident weight loading, and provides configuration and scripts for four-step text-to-audio/video inference.

Changes: MiniMax-H3 MPS INT8 inference

Layer / File(s) Summary
INT8 Metal GEMM shapes and execution
lightx2v_kernel/apple/python/lightx2v_kernel_apple/int8_gemm/*, lightx2v_kernel/apple/test/test_int8_matmul.py, lightx2v_kernel/apple/README.md
K and N dimensions can be positive multiples of 128. The Metal kernel handles partial quantization chunks and selects a K tile size for supported shapes. Tests cover H3 shapes, layout constraints, and output comparisons.
Quantization scopes and checkpoint conversion
lightx2v/models/networks/minimax_h3/int8_metal.py, tools/convert/convert_h3_*int8_metal.py, tests/test_h3_int8_{full_checkpoint,mlp_conversion,scope_profiles}.py, lightx2v_kernel/apple/README.md
Adds scoped projection selection, per-row INT8 conversion, indexed checkpoint validation and loading, and MLP-only conversion. Tests check quantized tensors, scales, preserved tensors, and scope matching.
H3 model and resident MPS loading
lightx2v/common/offload/mps_resident.py, lightx2v/models/networks/minimax_h3/*, lightx2v/models/input_encoders/hf/minimax_h3/qwen3vl.py, lightx2v/common/ops/mm/*, tests/test_h3_int8_metal_linear.py, tests/test_mps_linear_without_triton.py, tests/test_h3_int8_full_checkpoint.py
H3 validates and loads int8-metal checkpoints, then can load weight groups into MPS-resident storage under the configured constraints. The text encoder gains a resident loading path, and fused-kernel imports move into their execution paths.
MPS T2AV configuration and launcher
configs/platforms/mps/minimax_h3_t2av_4step_int8.json, scripts/minimax_h3/inference/minimax_h3_t2av_mps_int8.py, scripts/platforms/mps/run_minimax_h3_t2av_int8.sh, lightx2v_kernel/apple/README.md
Adds a four-step INT8 MPS configuration and CLI and shell entry points that initialize the H3 T2AV pipeline and generate output.

Unverified finding
Verification ran but could not confirm this finding. It is shown for review, not as a verified issue.

Move this import out of FP8F16AccumProjectionGroup.quantize.

This import runs on every call, including under torch.compile tracing and CUDA graph capture. It has the same root cause as the lazy imports in optimized_linear.py. Import fp8_quantize_range_triton once in FP8F16AccumProjectionGroup.__init__, or at construction in from_modules. from_modules already returns None unless a CUDA SM120 weight is present. Store the function on the instance and call it from quantize.

Resolve FP8 fused imports before compilation.

The first fused invocation can import Triton and register custom operators while torch.compile traces the WAN or H3 block. Resolve the GELU imports in the fusion-enabled wrapper constructors. Resolve the SwiGLU import in the H3 setup path before compiling the block. Keep these imports gated so MPS paths do not load CUDA modules.

For the GELU wrappers, use the stored module from apply:
