feat(qwen-image-2.1): add NPU MXFP8 W8A8 linear - #1669
Add online MXFP8 W8A8 linear quantization for Qwen-Image-2.1 on Ascend NPU, covering both text-to-image and image-to-image inference. Weights are quantized once when loading the original BF16/FP16 checkpoint, and activations are dynamically quantized during inference. No offline conversion or prequantized checkpoint is required.
On a single Ascend 950PR at 1024×1024 and 50 steps, this provides 1.30× T2I / 1.28× I2I DiT speedup and reduces peak allocated NPU memory by approximately 20% versus BF16.
Changes
Register the mxfp8-npu linear backend using torch_npu.npu_dynamic_mx_quant and torch_npu.npu_quant_matmul, with E4M3 weights/activations and group-32 E8M0 scales.
Quantize and pack weights/scales at load time, including padding for an odd number of scale groups. Preserve the activation dtype and output shape, and use FP32 bias for quantized matmul.
Enable mxfp8-npu in the Qwen-Image-2.1 runner and the shared DiT quantization scheme list. Route online loading through the original checkpoint loader so dit_original_ckpt overrides are honored.
Validate device, weight/activation dtype, dimensions, and unsupported configurations before execution. This initial path targets resident single-NPU inference; CPU offload, TP/SP, shared CPU weights, disk streaming, LoRA, and quantized attention combinations are rejected.
Add unit tests for registration, operator contracts, scale layouts, shape restoration, checkpoint loading, and configuration validation.
Performance
Measured on 1× Ascend 950PR, CANN 9.1.0 / PyTorch 2.10.0 with torch_npu, using the original Qwen-Image-2.1 checkpoint. Both configurations use 1024×1024, 50 steps, CFG=1.0, npu_flash_attn, and no compile, feature caching, offload, or LoRA. T2I uses seed 142; I2I uses seed 42 with the same reference image.
Results are the median of 5 measured requests after 1 warmup, without profiling. DiT latency covers condition KV prefill through the final scheduler update; text encoding, VAE processing, and HTTP overhead are outside this timing boundary.

Usage
Set the following fields in an Ascend Qwen-Image-2.1 configuration:
Use the original BF16/FP16 checkpoint via model_path or dit_original_ckpt; dit_quantized_ckpt can be omitted. Requires an Ascend NPU runtime with the MXFP8 quantization and matmul operators above. Text encoder and VAE remain BF16 in the measured configuration.

New Features
Added MXFP8 quantization support for Qwen Image 2.1 on Ascend NPU, including loading from an original checkpoint without a pre-quantized checkpoint.
This mode requires an Ascend NPU and does not support CPU offload, parallelism, shared CPU weights, disk streaming, LoRA, or npu_quant_flash_attn.
Adds registered MXFP8 NPU weight loading and application. Qwen Image 2.1 accepts the scheme, validates its supported configuration, and uses the original checkpoint when no quantized checkpoint is set.

Adds MXFP8 weight validation, quantization, scale layout, optional FP32 bias storage, and NPU matrix multiplication. Tests cover loading, application, and invalid inputs using a mocked NPU runtime.

Accepts mxfp8-npu in quantization checks and runner configuration. The runner rejects unsupported options and non-NPU devices. When no quantized checkpoint is configured, the model uses the original checkpoint loader. Tests cover these paths.
Standard Qwen-Image-2.1 weights avoid the identified loading failure, but smaller supported weight dimensions can fail to load. Correct the scale handling before using those dimensions.

The title names the main change: adding an NPU MXFP8 W8A8 linear quantization path for the Qwen-Image-2.1 model. The raw summary confirms a new registered mxfp8-npu weight class in mm_weight.py, plus runner, model-loader, and test changes that enable it. The title is specific and short, and a teammate scanning history would understand the primary change.
