Crashing happens often, however we have noticed that it can be dangerous to fly directly after a crash. The most common occurance is a mistiming of the ESCs and has happened after every major crash. This is easy to tell because when armed your ESCs will randomly "stall". You will hear the whining of them go in and out randomly as the motors are spinning. DO NOT FLY if this is happening. Re-flash and recalibrate all of your sensors to fix this.
ArduPilot is completely Open Source and respected by many Aeronautical Engineers who tinker with vehicles. It is easy to use and well supported doucmentation making it a no brainer.
Many parts are 3D printable on this drone making it very cost effective and fast to fix when a crash happens.
