GSoC 2026 with MDAnalysis

MDAnalysis has been accepted as an organization for Google Summer of Code (GSoC) 2026!

Partner projects

For GSoC, MDAnalysis collaborates with other projects that have direct links with MDAnalysis and where it is especially useful to draw on the combined mentoring expertise. This year, MDAnalysis is joining forces with WESTPA and Molecular Nodes.

Process

The application process has multiple stages as described in the GSoC with MDA 2026 blog post. In short

1. accept our Code of Conduct (and those of partner projects)
2. accept our AI Policy (and those of partner projects)
3. familiarize yourself with MDAnalysis (and partner projects)
4. engage with the MDAnalysis community (and partner projects) through contributions (e.g. code, documentation, ...) and discussions
5. submit a pre-proposal (NOTE: the pre-proposal submission will open next week)
6. participate in a video interview
7. submit the GSoC application

when i clicked on pre proposal form, it is showing that it is not accepting yet, but before that it is given that we will send the preproposal to the given email, but without filling the form how will i give my mail and how will i get the pre proposal document/template

The form will accept submissions some time next week. You do not need to send anything to an email. You will fill in the form directly.

Please note that the pre-proposal form will ask you to summarize your interactions with the project, and it’s an important component of how we will evaluate each submission.

Please be aware that we not only want to learn about you and your project but we also want to see your interactions with us. Therefore please pay extra attention to the question where you describe your interactions with us.
