2.1 Key insights

2.1.1 Most effective strategies for nutritious eating

  • Eating 5 vegetable and 2 fruit servings daily will have the biggest positive impact on health.
  • Meal prep is most effective to reducing cost, waste, preparation time and improving nutrition.
  • Freezing food preserves nutrients and prolongs shelf life.

2.1.2 User considerations

  • People don't understand much about nutrition, so the details should be abstracted away.
  • Recommended nutritional intake changes with age and gender.
  • Each person's nutrition should be individually tracked.
  • Some people cannot eat certain foods.

2.2 Assumptions

Not every user can be addressed. People who constantly travel will less likely have access to good culinary facilities (eg: fridge, oven). A certain level of English understanding is expected as well as an ability to navigate supermarkets.

2.3 Typical users

  1. Sally is a mum who takes care of 3 children, often leaving her with very little time. Twice a week, she would shop with her kids, they would always nag for the "yummy" discretionary foods. Often time, she gives into their pleas. As a result of the poor food choices, her health is suffering.

  2. Yohan is a uni student hoping to reduce living costs. Usually, he would be on campus, frequently taking advantage of the free campus food. With so many fast food places around, it's super convenient to simply eat out. In fact, most of his friends love to try out different meals whenever they meet up. "Gotta save time from cooking", he always say. Yohan likes to stay active and gyms, hoping to get somewhat ripped.

2.4 Validation

The app can be validated by:

  • Trailing the meal prep experience individually.
  • Talking to college campus dwellers.
  • Reviews from meal prep people in health communities.

2.5 Success metrics

  • Grocery cost.
  • Time taken to make a grocery list.
