I suspect that it's not valid to query the build step statuses in the middle of a build, and this race condition is causing the checks to fail.
This reverts commit 0cc6793. The authentication_config field has been published in the client libraries.
It turns out that structured types don't play well with pytest parameterization because they cannot be properly logged.
