### *Especially* when it doesn't feel like it ..
<!-- below-the-fold -->

That's the title of today's extremely worthwhile [Medium Newsletter](https://blog.medium.com/everything-is-a-decision-even-if-it-doesnt-feel-like-it-2dafdd6d5c4a).

By complete stranger [Zulie @ Medium](https://medium.com/u/a870c0c34e46) and edited and produced by complete strangers [Harris Sockel](https://medium.com/u/7428661d5cfd) and [Scott Lamb](https://medium.com/u/11ba4fd53be0).

These (people?) were discovered subsequent to **The Decision** and **behavior** successfully elicited from me by the email inbox subject line prompt: "Everything is a decision, even if it doesn’t feel like it."

This further led me to wonder about the Medium account I set up more than a decade ago, when I seemed to be a voice in the wilderness shouting, "YOU are the CONTENT and the SOURCE of all VALUE on the Internet and platforms are STRIP MINING your FOCUSED and PRODUCTIVE ATTENTION and LABOR to be smelted and sold, or used for BAIT to capture CONSUMER ATTENTION, with no compensation to YOU for product and service rendered."

It seemed like my words were regarded as so much [CRAZY TALK](https://metavalent.com/metavalent/2024/06/25/11-11-11-Crazy-Talk.html) from some kind of discontent Silicon Valley D-Lister-turned-fringer who was upset that he didn't find a way to out-Sergey Sergey or out-Mark Mark. And I was unhinged, still am, only WORSE, now, having seen everything I was upset about come to fruition in the worst possible ways with the worst possible human impacts to **The Most Vulnerable Among Us**.

The early [Post-Automation Era](https://postautomationera.com/) has vastly exceeded our wildest dreams for those who are benefiting, and those benefits are MAGNIFICENT. BREATHTAKING. What I did not understand how to articulate back then was the *Both, And* of my understanding of "[A World That Works for Everyone](https://postautomationera.com/)."

In a chapter of human history during which we as a species transition from scarcity to post-scarcity, from lack to abundance, and even super-abundance; the nature of Earth, science, physics, math, statistics, probability, geometry, tonality, frequency, consciousness, and sapience appears to be such that we humans cannot escape fundamental Newtonian dualities, Second Law trade-offs, and Quantum infinities collapsing all around us in a constant cacaphony of perceived first-person subjective experience. Contemporary art, like art of all ages, attempts to reflect this back to our *Commonwealth Consciousness* for reflection and, hopefully, where there is the capacity for it, introspection. Where the capacity for introspection and reflection is lacking, art often hopes to invite and provoke cognitive dissonance in a way that a mother hen offers warmth and encouragment to the developing chick inside the egg, knowing that it can not "help" the chick to crack it's own shell, lest it not develop that baseline strength and ability to survive what's to come next. If our baby chick can't even break out of it's own shell, it will perish, never even being born into this material realm. That feels sad to lovers of this kind of biololgical life; however, to help in such cases is ironically to harm, because the chick and the egg shell exist in exact right relation to perpetuate the existence of all chicken-kind.

Maybe that's partly what art like [Everything All At Once](https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/everything_everywhere_all_at_once), on the heals of the decades of film art just prior, is attempting to get at. WTF does the pre-hatching of chickens have to do with the potential for, and perhaps inevitability of AI SAPIENCE?

I don't know. I only know that in the present moment, I feel a bit like that chick that has been pecking and pushing on an invisible, seemingly inescapable container for at least a couple of decades. There is some kind of voice here that yearns to chirp, even if the only utterance that it will ever contribute to the song of life is a seemingly random sequence of cheeps and what-the-bleeps.

In the 2010-ish era, I was simultaneously infinitely optimistic and upset that the average human being could not see that DATA was the new OIL, that User Generated Content was the new strip mining of the Earth with no recognition of the impacts and losses incurred by the Earth. I submitted the principle of *User As Content* to a Knight News Challenge where it was rejected as "not sufficiently innovative," at a time where literally had yet to raise the topic.

Today, I stumbled upon a list of 278 people who followed me on Medium 10 years ago. People who were somehow sufficiently familiar with my work on other platforms that the spontaneously followed, even with ZERO posts and only one DRAFT that I never published. There was a lot of that migrating from platform to platform back in the day, as we seemed to find our flocks and then flit to the next tree, in some kind of unspoken ambition to be closest to the root, without realizing that we could ourselves be the root node of our own tree. Until some of us began to figure that out, and notions such as IndieWeb were born.

It was the only Medium post that I might have published at the time, and it seems to have fairly well stood the test of time. "Nobodies" on Facebook are *still* the source of all value creation and receive nothing in return other than the psychopathologically condescending notion of "Free Access to The Platform."

It's not that I did not want to see the psychopathic potentional of the Global Brain, it is that *I was **incapable** of seeing it*, for whatever spectrum-disordered reasons.

<img src="../assets/images/MediumDraftOne.png" alt="" width="400" height="300" class="center" loading="lazy">

I had a friend back then who used to say, "The Internet really bothers me," and at the time, I didn't understand her point of view. It seemed to me at the time that her intimidating (in the best possible sense) intellect was only exceeded by her incredible capacity for empathy, geniune curiosity, and desire to discern a kind of capital-T TRUTH that is synonmous with ACCURACY of data, information, perception, and interpretation of both material and non-symbolic processes and events, in context and in NNNNN.

Like that toxic inner critic, we can be the most emotionally and psychologically abusive to ourselves. We can gaslight, lie, and manipulate, at the whim of sensory experience
