    Ethernet cable

Standalone Operation

Full System, Standalone mode NOT enabled (normal usage)

Describe the Bug

When the laptop is suspended (s2idle) and I press the power button to wake it, it does not resume. Instead the laptop turns off completely. A second press of the power button is needed to switch it on again, and it then performs a fresh cold boot; the previous session is lost. The kernel log of the affected boot ends with "PM: suspend entry (s2idle)" and never reaches "PM: suspend exit". On the next boot the firmware reports a fatal BERT record containing an Intel SoC/PMC crashlog. This happened twice on 2026-09-30.

Steps To Reproduce

  1. Boot Fedora Workstation 44 with default power settings (sleep mode s2idle; hibernation is unavailable because of kernel lockdown with Secure Boot enabled).
  2. Suspend the laptop.
  3. Leave it asleep for a while (failures occurred after about 1 hour and about 5 hours).
  4. Press the power button to wake it.
  5. The system does not resume and turns off; a second press of the power button is needed to switch it on, and it cold-boots.
  6. After booting, run: journalctl -b -1 -k -n 10 → last line is "PM: suspend entry (s2idle)", no "PM: suspend exit".
  7. Run: journalctl -b 0 -k | grep BERT → "BERT: [Hardware Error]: Skipped 1 error records", "BERT: Total records found: 1".

Expected Behavior

The system resumes from s2idle when the power button is pressed, and the previous session is restored.

Operating System

Fedora Workstation 44 (GNOME 50)

Linux Kernel Version

7.2.7-200.fc44.x86_64

Additional Context

Device

  • Framework Laptop 13 Pro, Intel Core Ultra X7 358H
  • Secure Boot enabled
  • Power while suspended: Battery

Decoded BERT header (/sys/firmware/acpi/tables/data/BERT, decoded manually per UEFI CPER)

  • error severity: fatal, data length 27512 bytes
  • first section type: 81212a96-09ed-4996-9471-8d729c8e69ed (Firmware Error Record Reference)
  • record type 2 (SOC Firmware Error Record Type2), revision 2
  • record identifier GUID: 8f87f311-c998-4d9e-a0c4-6065518c4f6d (Intel SoC/PMC crashlog)

Attachments

  • bert-2026-09-30.bin.gz: raw BERT dump taken after the second failure
  • fw13pro-s2idle-log.txt: kernel log excerpts of both failed boots plus BERT lines (Wi-Fi lines removed)

Notes

  • GNOME power button action is "Suspend" (default); the log shows no shutdown or power-key event after suspend entry.
  • The RTC is kept in local time (dual boot with Windows 11 on a storage expansion card).
