Affected app version

1.9.1

Affected Android/Custom ROM version

Android 13

Affected device model

Galaxy S10 Lite

How did you install the app?

F-Droid / IzzyOnDroid

Steps to reproduce the bug

At some point, the app completely loses the ability to send SMS/MMS messages to specific contacts. When attempting to send a message, it fails, but I can still receive incoming messages from those exact contacts without any issues (one-way communication).

Expected behavior

Messages should be sent and delivered successfully to all contacts, as long as the network connection is stable and incoming traffic works.

Actual behavior

  1. Open a conversation with a specific contact.
  2. Type a message and hit send.
  3. The message fails to deliver.
  4. Have the same contact send a message to me — their message is received successfully.

Same here. An MMS usually triggers it, and then my messages get stuck on "Sending..." indefinitely.

Not sure if this is the same issue, but I have a moto g 2026 w/Android 16 & Messages 1.9.1 installed via f-droid & one contact seems to have stopped receiving MMS messages only, but still gets SMS (that's my theory, she doesn't get longer messages). I believe she uses an iPhone. I tested it with an android user and both images & long MMS texts come through for the android user. I use T-Mobile. My phone performed some sort of update a few days ago which may or may not be relevant, but correlates with the time this behavior started.

@seiferflo Regarding the "Sending..." thing, when that happens I find that when I exit the chat (returning to the contacts list) and re-enter the chat it will send

@kennethd Yes, this matches what I observed. I'm not sure if subsequent MMS messages are completely blocked by that contact, but when SMS and MMS are sent together, even a few seconds apart, neither goes through. A couple of days later, SMS works fine again. However, the initial batch of SMS/MMS messages is never received.
