What is that?

The magnetic model, used for calculating the variation, is stored in the WMM.COF file. At the moment it is loaded when the location of ephemeris is calculated. After all it has no real use yet, since the magnetic variation is not used to correct the north of the SpaceOrienter device. Anyway, at this very first stage of the project it has to be stored in the correct path to get the path in order to get the ephemeris working.

Where to Store it?

It depends. While the Excel version and first commits of the app used the planephm library newer versions of the app don't.

App (current)

If you are using the portable mode then you have to store it in the same folder as the app. Otherwise it is the normal config path of an app in your OS. Like

  • Unix: /home/$USER/.config/SpaceOrienter
  • Windows: C:\ProgramData\FireInstallations\SpaceOrienter

Further reading: Portable mode In future releases there will no need to store it in the working path of the App.

Excel and legacy app versions (Works only in Windows!)

I would recomment to use C:\Astro\Ephemerides but there are other paths also possible have a look at the original website: PanEph
