Polis in Practice

Why

We do not have the perfect tool, but we do believe we should use it and other electronic democracy infrastructure to improve the way we exchange opinions.

While technical team is focusing in improving Polis and inventing better solution, Polis in Practice focus in applying existing tools for opinions exchanging.

The two main Practices are Live Streaming and Street Interview

Live Streaming

This experiment is the key practice we do right at the moment.

Rundown

1. We find a meeting in council meeting Schedule that:
   1. Is a Committee meeting
   2. Has short agenda
2. We setup a Polis conversation on pol.is and setup some seed comments to engage people.
   1. We can use BotPolisSeedComments - Poe to setup seed comments.
3. Announce on social media pages that we are going to have a live re-streaming for Committee meeting on YouTube with a Polis conversation and invite people to watch. (We may also invite people to propose topic but we are not going to do it right now)
4. Use OBS to do live streaming.
   1. Connect OBS to our YouTube channel: OBS forum thread YouTube guide
5. Copy the URL of YouTube Live Streaming from City Council YouTube channel
   1. Open the YouTube Live of the scheduled Committee meeting from City Council YouTube channel
   2. Right click on video and select copy URL
6. In OBS, edit the input source of media and paste the URL
7. Create QR code for the Polis conversation URL
8. Use visual elements in Google Drive with OBS make the scene look like the example live streaming:
9. Use PolisStreamingIntro.png as scene to start live streaming before the meeting start.
10. Announce start of live streaming on social media 📢
11. Put live streaming online and do moderation 🧑‍💼
12. End live streaming with PolisStreamingOuttro.png for end scene after the meeting end.
13. Conclude the experience in live streaming following Project closures template for past experiments should Post in Discussion - categories/show-and-tell. 🧠
