# Counter Processor
# Counter Processor -- ARCHIVED, no longer maintained

## This repository has been archived and is no longer maintained.

As of 2024, this script is no longer in use by the internal projects that were originally
using it. Dryad has moved on to using the DataCite web tracker for the statistics they are
tracking.

The DataCite web tracker has the advantage of being able to log statistics directly to
a web endpoint and statistics are automatically calculated by DataCite rather than needing
to manage logs, calculate stats manually (and slowly for large amounts of traffic)
and upload reports separately to the DataCite hub on a schedule.

As of March 2024, I've done some final cleanup of Python library versions to update
dependencies to address security vulnerabilities and to make the script run with Python
3.10.

Some aspects of the project are long out of date or were designed for smaller scale that didn't
work well for the later states of some software that used it. Resources and prioritization meant
that the project has been out of date for quite some time (for example having to use older
geolocation libraries without of date data) and updates have been slow.

Because of this, the project is being archived and is no longer maintained. We hope this
doesn't cause large problems for the few who continue to use it.
