Backend engineer, Bengaluru. I spent 3.5 years on the trading & settlement platform at Fidelity International, where I owned the redesign of a synchronous order-execution pipeline into an event-driven Kafka + PostgreSQL system handling ~5M transactions/day.
Currently on a career break, spending the time going deeper on distributed systems and starting to contribute to open source β see below.
- Event-driven backends β Kafka consumer groups, exactly-once processing under at-least-once delivery, idempotency via database constraints, safe behavior under rebalancing and instance failure.
- Performance & correctness under load β diagnosing production contention (hot keys, insert-retry storms), jittered backoff, write batching, cutting p95/p99 latency with measured before/after numbers.
- Pragmatic design β strategy-pattern rule chains, dropping external coordination dependencies when a simpler primitive is provably correct.
At Fidelity I also mentored two engineers onto the platform and drove team adoption of AI-assisted development while holding generated code to the same review bar as everything else.
I'm new to open source and treating it as a real commitment, not a drive-by. I'm looking for Java / Spring / distributed-systems projects where I can pick up non-trivial issues over time. Interests:
- Apache Kafka / Spring Kafka, messaging and streaming infrastructure
- Redis-backed caching, rate limiting, idempotency
- Developer tooling and testing infrastructure for backend services
- Documentation and onboarding β I like making systems approachable for the next contributor
If you maintain something in that space and have a good first issue that needs
an owner, I'd genuinely like to hear about it.
