AWS Picchu Edit OTIO Conversion Notes
This document describes the steps taken to convert the AWS Picchu Edit DaVinci Resolve project file (available here) into OpenTimelineIO OTIO and OTIOZ formats. Thanks to DaVinci Resolve's native support for OTIO, this is extremely easy to do in just a few clicks.
If you want the OTIO or OTIOZ versions of this project, you don't need to do this conversion. They are already available here. The steps below document the process taken in case you have other material you want to convert, or in case you want to try newer versions of DaVinci Resolve or OTIO.
Steps:
- Download the AWS Picchu Edit DaVinci Resolve project file here.
- Unzip the archived project onto your computer, and note the location where you save it.
- Download Blackmagic Design's DaVinci Resolve Studio 18.5, or greater.
- Note: The free version of DaVinci Resolve does not support 4k material, so the Studio version is required to reproduce these steps.
- You need at least version 18.5 for OTIO export.
- Launch DaVinci Resolve.
- In the Project Manager window, Ctrl-click or right-click and choose
Restore Project Archive...
. - Select the
Picchu_v10_AZ.dra
you unarchived earlier. - DaVinci Resolve will now show the imported project in the Project Manager window.
- Open the
Picchu_v10_AZ
project by double-clicking. - The
Picchu_F01_4096x2048_h.265_CBRHQ
timeline should be the default open tab. If not, locate it inMaster/Edits/Current
. - From the main menu, select
File/Export/Timeline...
. - Choose the export format:
-
OTIO Files (*.otio)
if you want just the timeline, with no media (small). -
OTIO Bundle Files (*.otioz)
if you want the timeline with media bundled (large).
-
- Choose a folder.
- Press
Save
.
That's it :)
Some of the audio media for this project is intentionally omitted due to licensing restrictions, so you will notice some OTIO audio clips have MissingReferences. Note that OTIO's MissingReference schema is designed to handle this sort of real world use case elegantly.
