According to Wikipedia, the rules are as follows:
- The field has size 10 x 10.
In the beginning both players position their ships according to the following rules:
- Ships cannot touch.
- Ships are straight lines.
- Ships may be positioned at the border.
- Ships cannot be positioned diagonally.
- Everyone has got 10 ships:
- One aircraft carrier (size 5)
- Two battleships (size 4)
- Three destroyers (size 3)
- Four submarines (size 2)
After positioning the ships, the game starts.
- Beginning player (A) is chosen randomly.
- A chooses a target position.
- B tells A whether he has "Hit", "Missed" or "Sunk" a ship (i.e. each square of one ship has been hit).
The first player to sink all his opponent's ships wins the game.
Our version of battleships contains some modifications to the rules:
- In addition to firing a shot, the player is allowed to move one of his ships forward or backward by one cell.
- You cannot move your ship so that it touches one of your other ships.
- As soon as one of your ships is completely sunk, it disappears (i.e. you can now move other ships across it).
- Number of turns will be limited to prevent endless games.
