Being able to record macros(similar to vim) on the fly could be useful.
How could it be useful?
Usecase: Sometimes I use some applications for a couple of hours, but then I don't use them ever again. I wouldn't want to change their shortcuts(even if it is possible) or map their potentially unique shortcut in my keymaps, but for those couple of hours, I would temporarily record a macro that is easier to trigger than the original shortcut. Even something that is so simple like Shift+f10. One could record Shift+f10 macro and trigger it with e.g. JL Combo keypress.
"Vial" support for dynamic keymap configuration will be helpful, but it will require more steps than a simple macro recording.
I have some starter code for this and I plan on working on it more when I get some free time. I'd love some help with it if you're familiar with the codebase!
I would gladly help, but I am not familiar with the codebase and I don't yet have a keyboard with ZMK on it. I am using QMK on a usb_to_usb_converter at the moment. The new Kinesis keyboard(advantage 360 Pro with ZMK) should come out in September. A must-buy for me:)
