Add text instructions to recording?

I have just discovered this app today, and I love it... it’s so much better than QuickTime, and I really appreciate the fact that it sits in the menu bar. Thank you for sharing!

I was wondering if there is a way to add text to different points in the recording? I’ve looked into the Plugins and can’t see one that does this (creating a plugin is beyond my abilities right now). Is this possible or does anyone have a simple workaround for this (other than displaying the text on the screen using a text editor).

Use case: I often need to create instructional screen grabs for students, which would then be posted to an announcement in the online teaching site. I’d like to be able to edit the screen recording to add text information/instructions and then save as a GIF.
