Welcome! If you're interested in automated note splitting, we would love to hear about your workflow! Specifically, we would like to know the format of your plaintext files before splitting, and the patterns of the different parts of the file that need to be moved into new files.
For example, here's a common workflow using markdown files:
Start with a large file with lots of text, divided into sections by markdown-style headers. Spread throughout the file are tags summarizing the file and acting as searchable keywords.
Each of the smaller headers and the text under them is cut and pasted into a new file (one new file for each of these sections).
Where those sections used to be, clickable links to the new files are inserted.
Tags near the top of the original file are copied into the tops of each of the new files.
Any citations at the bottom of the original file may need to be copied into new files.
All of this can be fully automated starting with step 2.
Another great example of a writing workflow is the one Hendrik Erz shared here.
These kinds of workflows are often used in academic writing, but are not limited to it. There are many different workflows and file formats that involve splitting notes/files into multiple smaller files. Tell us yours and we might be able to automate it!
