There seem to be recurring discussions about Alphawolf strategy, particularly about at what point in the game he should use his kill.
ARGUMENTS IN FAVOR OF KILLING EARLY:
To reduce the chance that the Alphawolf will get killed before it has a chance to use its ability
To maximize the chances of killing the seer, gravedigger, or other information-gathering power roles early in the game, before they have a chance to find and reveal much information to the villagers; or to get rid of militia before they can use their shot; etc.
Where there's a Harlot or Stalker or Protector, and early in the game, when there are more players for them to stalk or visit or protect, there's a lower chance of the Alphawolf being seen visiting, or having his kill blocked by the Protector.
If there's a Stalker, once people have claimed roles, then the Stalker would probably focus his stalking more on the claimed vanillagers, making it even more likely the Alphawolf would get caught. Also, if there's a Harlot or Protector, they would probably focus their harlotry or protection, respectively, more on the claimed power roles, making it harder for the Alphawolf to kill them and not get caught.
ARGUMENTS IN FAVOR OF KILLING LATER:
Maybe by later in the game, the Stalker has already been killed, and so would not be able to catch the Alphawolf making his kill.
