As a builder I want to share the design tokens between figma, penpot, tokens studio and alike.

Questions:

  1. Should this be based design tokens spec json https://tr.designtokens.org/format/ or based on css variables?
  2. Should webstudio be able to push changes to somewhere else or only sync them into webstudio, what is the source of truth, the external service or webstudio?
  3. When working with css variables, should there be a distinction between external/imported once and the once created in webstudio? Maybe there is a need to separate the collections instead of throwing them all in one bucket?

Requirements:

  • ability to update the tokens when you need to, not automatically push them into webstudio, because you want to keep dev, staging and prod functional independently
  • if working with css variables, then these should be integrated with autocomplete in values and search in advanced style panel
