This appears likely to be a MacOS bug, but when you toggle "enable HDR mode" in BetterDisplay and System Settings / Display is open to the target monitor, the HDR mode switch does not toggle. Leaving that screen and coming back appears to refresh it. |

Yes, it's a System Settings issue. Actually there is no public API to switch to HDR mode, so the sole option is buried in System Settings in macOS. Because of this they did not really prepare for the eventuality that a third party app will switch mode, so System Settings needs to be manually refreshed. |

@waydabber Thank you. It's potentially a bug in MacOS itself, as you can get the display and OS toggle out of sync just by working in MacOS (I've seen this before installing BetterDisplay). |
