Lag when changing brightness

I'm using a MBP M1 Pro, just installed and changed a couple settings, notably using native XDR brightness upscaling. I've noticed that the program including its settings menu lags for around 6-7 seconds when I change the brightness. I figure the lag is something that can be investigated, but it isn't really an issue for normal use.

However, the nits animation also lags for me, and I also notice that sometimes it goes up to the expected level and then goes back down. I'd like to just disable this animation entirely, opting to either stick with the native brightness slider or to immediately display the brightness in nits without the simulated wheels.

Hmm. It should not lag like this. Do you see any excessive CPU use under Activity Manager? If you see BD and/or all bunch of other apps spiking, then the display might be in EDR mode and the brightness change causes apps to require tone-mapping which tends to slow the system down somewhat. But this should not happen in native XDR brightness mode (unless you enabled combined brightness for native XDR in Settings and lowered the max nits, but based on the nits counter this is not the case). So all in all, I am not sure why this is happening. :)

Good news is that you can of course disable the OSD nits animation or switch to a simpler one under Settings/Keyboard/OSD:

CPU spike when changing brightness has been solved by a reboot, but the app does still lag in any configuration of displays and OSD. With or without an external HDR display connected, the 6-7 second lag applies, though it does feel a little worse with one. Overall, brightness adjustment works well enough for me, I'm satisfied with OSD off, thanks.
