Lg oled 48 + Monterey

Hi,

My setup is the following:

• Macbook pro from 2018, in clamshell mode, connected to a LG oled TV (4k) with a USB to HDMI cable. Working at 60 hz. No issue.
  I'm trying to:
• Use only a part of the LG oled by defining a custom ultrawide resolution and have black bars at the top and the bottom.

My issue is that whatever I try, Monterey keeps reverting my settings and set the dummy as mirror of the LG (I hope I understood it right, it is supposed to be the other way around, is it correct? LG mirror of the dummy)

When I connect the dummy, there are two scenarios happening:

• The LG and the dummy are separate, and my current screen is a new desktop so I don't have the display settings anymore. From the top bar, I select "Screen Mirroring" and I set the LG as mirror of the dummy. I now have only one desktop, and I can access to the display settings. But the LG is actually not defined as mirror but as "main". When I select main and "stop mirroring", it is ignored and goes back to main.
• The dummy is a mirror of the dummy, I can still see the display settings. Whatever I try (stop the mirror state of the dummy from the dummy or from the main display), it is ignored as well and goes back to the LG as main.
• I also tried to use the new interface for Display settings, where you can arrange your screens. So I drag and drop the dummy onto the LG. The system blinks for a second and it goes back to a none mirror state. But when I drag and drop the LG onto the dummy, it works and the dummy is now a mirror of the LG.

I'm really confused, looks like everyone has this setup properly and I must be missing something.

Does it ring a bell to anyone? Do I need to set "association" to the dummy? Do I have to stop using the clamshell mode? (I tried and it didn't work as well, but I'm asking just in case).

Hi @KherRr

You should mirror the Dummy to the LG display. To achieve this, you need to set the Dummy as Optimize for:. Main and Extended is an other thing in macOS, it defines whether the display has the menu bar by default or not. A single display or a mirror set both can be Main or Extended, so this term does not designate which display is the mirror master.

If you try the v1.1.0 beta version, there is an option that will attempt to set up mirroring for you correctly.

Association is not required - if you associate a dummy and a display, BetterDummy will connect the dummy whenever the display is connected to your macbook and disconnect the dummy whenever the display is disconnected.

I plan to add a feature that will allow a wide display to be located on a big TV anywhere (so if you don't want it to be at the middle but towards the bottom of the screen). I actually did this but did not have time to properly integrate the controls and adjustments for this. This will be useful for the "big TV as display folks located near to you on your desk" folks:

Many thanks, I missed the BETA and the bug I was mentioning (settings reverted by the system) is now gone!
