Macbook Pro M2 - Samsung G9 ( LC49G95T ) 5120x1440 - Trying to max out HiDPi for clearer text

It is a known issue that using MBP M2 and Samsung G9 monitor results in fuzzy/blurry text.

I'm trying to use BetterDisplay to achieve the best possible results without losing too much screen real estate. Using HIDPI resolution of 3840x1080 results in super clear text but the amount of screen real estate lost is too much for my productive work.

I tried to set up a Custom resolution to get higher, but it doesn't seem to work. I am by no means an expert on this, so there must be something I'm missing or doing wrong. Screenshots and info below

BetterDisplay version: 2.0.11 Build 24534
Monitor: Samsung G9 LC49G95T, native resolution of 5120x1440
Connected monitor without a dock, using: Club 3D USB Type-C -> DisplayPort 1.4 (8K60HZ)

The maximum HiDPI resolution width the M2 Pro can provide is 3840px. If you want a higher HiDPI desktop, you need to create a Virtual Screen, enable 8K+ resolutions for it and mirror or stream it to your real screen.

Right. Having a virtual screen it itself is not really useful as you won't see its contents, unless you stream or mirror it to your display. Go to "Stream Virtual Screen" and start streaming it to your real display - or do the same with mirroring!

I created a virtual screen with enable HiDPI enabled.
I then enabled HiDPI on my physical screen and it worked (initially I forgot ot adjust my physical screen)

I just traded my M1 Pro MBP in for a M4 Pro MBP

• On the M1 Pro I get 3840x1080 HIDPI option which looks great
• On the M4 Pro I get 3840x1080 option but no HIDPI and looks blurry and horrible

Same cablematters DP to USB-C 8k braided and same OS version on both machines

Ended up just using native 5120x1440 and upscaling each program I use on it with CMD + which is less than ideal. Mostly use for tradingview. G9 OLED

Yes, the M4 Pro has all kinds of issues with resolutions with ultrawides apparently. On the latest version you see an additional line under Display Information... called Pipe horizontal limit, the first item shows the current resolution limit allocated by the system for the display (reasons not entirely clear). On some ultrawide displays 3840px seems to be available at certain refresh rates though (for example available at 120Hz but not available at 60Hz).
