Hi, thanks & I'm thrilled to start participating!

@JoshuaLau0220 - if I add zh-Hant (Chinese, Traditional) as language is that all right? This seems to be the recommended language to be added in XCode.

That should be alright. While there are still some terminology differences, the traditional-simplified distinction should be more critical.

Thanks! I updated the localization zip file under waydabber/BetterDisplay#2165 - you should work on zh-Hant.xcloc using XCode! Let me know if you have any troubles!

I updated the localization file in the waydabber/BetterDisplay#2165 opening post to reflect the latest v2.1.0 pre-release version.

Let me know if you have any questions or issues with the translation. Also, if there is a partial translation and you want me to compile a version with it included so you can see the existing progress in the app itself, let me know! :)

Hey @waydabber @JoshuaLau0220, I would like to join the Traditional Chinese location.

Of course! I am not sure what is the current progress - @JoshuaLau0220 is there a way @stonkol can help? If you send a partial translation, I can import it into the app. If both of you work on the file (for example from both ends), I can (theoretically) combine the two files.

Hi @JoshuaLau0220, @stonkol - thanks for volunteering to work on the Chinese, Traditional localization! Since there doesn't seem to be much progress/feedback on this, I need to ask - are any of you still working on this? If not, that is completely fine and I completely understand - but then I'll need to remove the translation placeholder files from the project for now (until there is an other volunteer of course). I ask this only to keep things in order and get a feel on how things are proceeding. Thank you! :)

Hi there, since there seems to be no progress or any reply, I'll remove zh-Hant form the repo/project for now. I can add it back anytime of course if there is a progress on it.

Here is the xcloc file for the current v2.3.1 app version:

zh-Hant.xcloc.zip

All right, no problem, let me know if you can work on it and need an updated localization file at that time!

There is now a PR for Chinese, Traditional by @old-cookie here:

#50

Not entirely sure though what's the difference between Hong-Kong and Taiwan variants - are these the same or different, should they be dealt together or separately as different localizations?

@waydabber

The question specifically is if it is ok to use zh-Hant for the #50 PR or there should be a separate zh_HK and zh_TW localizations? :)

Here is an updated build with zh-Hant:這是 zh-Hant 的更新版本:

Thank you for reaching out!

Based on your question, here's some guidance:

Using zh-Hant is a more general choice when you want to cater to users familiar with Traditional Chinese script across various regions. It provides broader coverage and is mutually intelligible among users in places like Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau. If you choose zh-Hant, your app's language option should display as "中文(繁體)" to indicate Traditional Chinese.

On the other hand, using zh-HK is suitable if you want to specifically target users in Hong Kong. This setting might include region-specific terminology or expressions. For this option, the language should appear as "中文(香港特別行政區)" in the app.

Both choices are valid, but zh-Hant might offer a wider appeal if you aim for inclusivity across multiple regions using Traditional Chinese.

The translation I provided is understood across multiple regions, so feel free to modify the code I submitted fromzh-HK to zh-Hant if you decide to use Traditional Chinese.

I hope this helps clarify things!

Hi there, just released a version with the new Chinese, Traditional localization (currently auto-updates to pre-release users only, general rollout will follow if no issues are reported).
