[BUG] OS navigation buttons disappear when viewing an image full screen

Describe the bug
When I click on an image to view it full screen, the OS navigation buttons (Back, Home, Overview/Recent) at bottom of the screen disappear after a moment. This means the only way to escape the image is the X in the top left corner - however, that is where my front camera lens is and it makes it very difficult to hit the X, not to mention it makes me have to reach all the way to the top right which makes one-handed navigation impossible.

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

1. Click on any image in feed to view full screen
2. Image loads in full screen
3. Notice after a moment the OS navigation buttons at bottom of screen disappear

Expected behavior
Navigation buttons to stay on screen while viewing image (like twitter/X, other social) for easy escape of image

If you tap the screen or do the gesture of scrolling up the buttons don't appear back?

No gestures or tapping don't make the buttons reappear.
