The pin header for external debugger connection should be more robust and proof against twist (wrong connector direction).

  • look on the internet for XDS500 and XDS1000 debugger, and check common connectors
  • See if the are twist-proof and may add the connector

Next, a pre-investigation is necessary:

  • small lab setup, and see if external debugger can be used in general. Also check, if external debugger is more robust than internal one. There must be an XDS200 somewhere in the lab.
  • See if any disconnection of on-board XDS100 debugger is necessary if external one is used
  • if yes, add a switch on the PCB what can disconnect the on-board debugger easily
