When using PYTHONOPTIMIZE (https://docs.python.org/3/using/cmdline.html#cmdoption-O) assert statements will be removed. In that case, patch_celery_tracer will not be called:

assert patch_celery_tracer()

The issue could be fixed by replacing the assert statement by an if statement, and you could throw an exception when the patching doesn't succeed.
