How to select the first dropdown option by pressing Enter from the input and not having to hit the down arrow

I have a search input that populates dropdown items as you type. I would like to be able to just press Enter from the input field without having to navigate down into the dropdown and have it select the first available option. Is this possible?

I can't seem to detect Enter key presses onKeyDown. Any help or guidance would be much appreciated. Thanks!
