Ensure you have the Go language extension (the official Google Go Team extension) installed. Open a Go project in VS Code. Browse around your code. The Extension Host crashes and the notification appears.
Disable the Regex Workbench extension. Restart VS Code - all is well.
NOTE: I used the excellent 'Extension Bisect' built-in command to locate the extension causing this.
