stan-mode would be a nice addition to ESS #61
Comments
We are in the process of compiling our paper work for the FSF. And we are just about done now so it would be nice to get your contribution if you wish to do so. So please let me know soon so I can work with the other ESS developers with you on this. FYI: If you choose to participate, then you would need to follow these instructions. Please email the following information to [email protected], and we Please use your full legal name (in ASCII characters) as the subject

Thank you for your information and maintaining ESS. I have been thinking about this. I only took over the maintenance in the last couple of months and the MELPA release of the updated packages just happened. I’m also rather new to the Stan community. So I chose not to take further major actions at this point. I’ll revisit this in the future to determine what the most sustainable development path is. |
@rsparapa, where does this ELPA transition stand now for ESS? With the recent maintenance difficulties major emacs package projects like auto-complete, helm, and pdf-tools, this path increasingly seems important. @jrnold, would you be interested in transferring the copyright if we decide on this? The bulk of the stan-mode codebase is your contribution. |
Hi Kazuki: Yes, we now have our paperwork with FSF solid. We are planning one more release the old way this fall and the next release will be on ELPA sometime soon hopefully. However, after going this process, I have a couple ideas. One option, if you have your paperwork all set, then just go to ELPA yourself. That way ESS and stan-mode would both on be on ELPA which would be great for the users. The other option is something we are calling ESS+. ESS+ is a bundle of emacs packages inclusing ESS: some are on ELPA and some are not. stan-mode would be perfect for ESS+ which would be on MELPA and what I am planning to personally use for convenience. ONE EDIT: AND WE COULD DO BOTH OF COURSE. So, you can take your time and think about this. Please let me know if you have any questions. Rodney |
Hi Kazuki:
I’ve been using your stan mode and I find it really useful. I’ve been working
on ESS mode for the last 20 years. And I think stan mode would make a
wonderful addition. Also, it would be very beneficial to the users to be able
to install R mode and stan mode at once with ESS. Recently, we have been
collecting signatures to make ESS FSF compliant so that it can be installed
from ELPA. This will be useful for many users and would be a plus for those
wanting stan mode too. This is all my own personal opinion. But, as we have a
couple Bayesians in the ESS developer group, I think I can easily convince
them if you want to join us. So, please let me know.
Thanks,
Rodney
