The most important step in moving towards beta is providing example configurations to show others how to implement the system they want. These configurations should show off the possibilities of the system.

I envision the following example configurations:

Minimal

  • one type of fish ("Fish") found in one type of fishing spot ("Fishing Spot")
  • one type of fishing equipment ("Fishing Pole")
  • one type of bait ("Bait") which, while optional, greatly increases the probability of catching a fish
  • standard animations, no skill contests, and basic flavor text

Lite

  • ten different types of fish found in "freshwater" (lake, river, and pond) and "saltwater" (coast and sea) environments
  • fishing poles, spears, and nets; each can catch different fish types
  • three types of live bait and one lure bait type; each catch different fish types
  • standard animations, basic ability check for catch, and expanded flavor text
  • chance to lose bait
  • can fish out a fishing spot temporarily
  • chance to catch a non-fish item

Full

  • twenty different types of fish found in ten different environments
  • fishing poles, spears, and nets of varying quality
  • ten types of live bait and five types of lures
  • varying animation length
  • skill and ability contests depending on fish
  • fish frequency varies depending on time of day and phase of moon
  • catching fish increases skill level; skill level increases contest win chance
  • chance to lose bait and break equipment
  • extensive, randomized flavor text dependent on fish
  • can fish particular fish out of a spot when catching too many in too short a time
  • extensive non-fish catch options with varying rarities

Unlike the other two configurations, this will likely be a showcase for optional add-ons rather than a drop-in configuration. It will be intended to show scripters how to add their own flair to the fishing system. As such, this configuration could be saved for the RC build.
