When you do a contour plot, the aspect ratio for the pixels is not equal, so you can be fooled into thinking stars are trailed.
To fix this add in line ~1562
ax.set_aspect('equal', adjustable='box')
Then change back at the end of the contour function at line ~1605 to not affect future plots
ax.set_aspect('auto')
