I uploaded counts but looks like core got pulled in even though I just specified --target htn only

just to check - you also provided the --target command when you ran upload?

yes - I generated core when I exported the counts so I should've removed the core folder I guess - target arg is ignored on the upload - sorry I should've done that (edited)
