There is a page on the Slic3r wiki that is a good place to start, if not the main README.

# Can I help?

Sure! You can do the following to find things that are available to help with:

* Development
	* [Low Effort tasks](https://github.com/slic3r/Slic3r/labels/Low%20Effort): pick one of them!
	* [Help Wanted tasks](https://github.com/slic3r/Slic3r/labels/help%20wanted): pick one of them!
	* [More available tasks](https://github.com/slic3r/Slic3r/milestone/32): let's discuss together before you start working on them
	* Please comment in the related GitHub issue that you are working on it so that other people know.
* Contribute to the [Manual](http://manual.slic3r.org/)! (see its [GitHub repository](https://github.com/slic3r/Slic3r-Manual))
* You can also find us in #slic3r on [FreeNode](https://webchat.freenode.net): talk to _Sound_, _LoH_ or the other members of the Slic3r community.
* Add an [issue](https://github.com/slic3r/Slic3r/issues) to the GitHub tracker if it isn't already present.
* Drop Alessandro a line at [email protected].
* Drop Joseph a line at [email protected]

This page lists tasks available for contributors. If you want to help out in Slic3r development, you could choose a task among these that are needed for sure.

See [this page](http://juerd.nl/site.plp/perlstyle) for a good and comprehensive page about the coding style I like.

* Anything in the [[Pull Request or Bust|https://github.com/alexrj/Slic3r/issues?q=is%3Aopen+is%3Aissue+milestone%3A%22Pull+Request+or+Bust%22]] milestone.
    * Issues in the other milestones (or [[no milestone|https://github.com/alexrj/Slic3r/issues?q=is%3Aopen+is%3Aissue+no%3Amilestone]]) are also available, but post in the issue thread saying you're working on it

* [help wanted](https://github.com/slic3r/Slic3r/issues?q=is%3Aopen+is%3Aissue+label%3A%22help+wanted%22) tagged issues.
* [low effort](https://github.com/slic3r/Slic3r/issues?q=is%3Aopen+is%3Aissue+label%3A%22Low+Effort%22) tagged issues.

* Wiki documentation.

* Updates to [[The Manual|https://github.com/Slic3r/Slic3r-Manual]]

* Logic for hollow objects [spiralize]

* Better support material

* <strike>Dual extruders</strike>

* Auto-plating

* <strike>GUI with preview</strike>

* Calibration wizard

I've submitted PR slic3r/Slic3r#4690 to help with this.

Instead of creating a separate page, what do you think about adding a link to the website that leads to https://github.com/slic3r/Slic3r/blob/master/.github/CONTRIBUTING.md

The reason I suggest that is to avoid errors caused by duplicate documents and to minimize long-term maintenance.
