Now that Ultimate Spider-Man has been figured out here is another one that might be even more of challenge.

On top of the normal issues these old games have with new controllers like the triggers being an axis the right stick is completely borked left and right do nothing and up and down move the camera left and right. and this is all despite the fact that at least according to PC Gaming Wiki this game supports Xinput controllers but it is exhibiting similar issues to games that don't.

on top of this the games configuration program on start up seems unable to remap buttons past just one button and then it has an error detecting the gamepad which is strange.

I have used Xidi, Gamepad Pheonix and Xinput Plus none really got anything to work. I've tried dinput8 and winmm and have given the logs below. using a hex editor I did see entries mentioning dinput8 and winmm not sure if that really means much and least skimming the logs it seemed like dinput was maybe working but the behaviour in game didn't change.

I also tried both with Hookshot and because of how the game boots it just refused to hook in. the game opens the settings config program exe then the opening movie exe and then the game exe and no matter which one I tried to hook it to.

I'm not sure if anything can be done or if this is just messed up old xinput that can't be fixed but it seems like it can use directinput controllers it just doesn't let Xidi change the buttons. It does seem like the button mappings and other settings instead of saving to an ini file or something save to the registry so maybe that could be causing the problem I'm not sure.

The WinMM log shows something like #91 - it's an unimplemented feature where the game asks Xidi's WinMM form for updates sent as window messages whenever the controller position changes. We should revisit this issue once that feature is implemented.
