Watching your tutorial I noticed the following two bugs:
1: When capping the maximal y-velocity, you forgot to assign self.vel_y = 10 in line 216
2: Jump in mid air is possible when falling off a tile. You do not set the in_air variable to true when the player walks off to the sides.
