Hello,

I updated my system to the latest version "Ubuntu Touch OS build number 15...." and Beru 1.0.0 version

I use a Nexus 10 Tablet

After this, I observe the following failure :

When I navigate in an epub book.
Internal links in blue do not work.

For your information : from my point of view, this seems to be a regression, as in the past, in the old version of Beru, it has worked

Thank you in advance for your help

            Gigiblabla

PS : Sorry for my bad english

Yes, that would be a regression. I can't reproduce it on my setup, but
I don't have the most recent image yet. I'll download that and see
what happens.

In the meantime, a few questions as I try to guess what could be going
wrong:

  • Do external links (that open in the web browser) still work?
  • Can you navigate with the Contents menu from the toolbar?
  • Does this happen with all ebooks, or just a few? If it's just a few,
is there one you could send me (rschroll at gmail)?
  • When you tap the link, what happens? Do you get a page turn?

Thanks for the report.

I've downloaded the most recent RTM image, but I can't reproduce this
problem. Any information you can give as to when it appears will be
helpful.

I've checked this on my Nexus 7 (beru 1.0.0 as of Nov 7 2014) and the links work just fine for me, in several differant books. The version I have on my nexus 4 doesn't apply, it's a heavily modified beru.

First of all I want to thank you for your help with the use of Beru and looking for the solution to my problem.

Firstly:

I want to remind my setup:

  Nexus 10 Tablet

Ubuntu touch Version 15... (Ubuntu Vivid Vervet (development branch) - armhf (20141201-020204)

No dual boot Android / Ubuntu touch

Second:

I'll try to answer your next question different

"

  • Do external links (that open in the web browser) still work "?

When I click on the "magnifying glass" in the window "get books" I can navigate into "Open Library".
If I click on the web link on this page "1,000,000 free ebook titles" my tablet crashes sometimes.

And when I use the software "logviewer" I see the latest following messages:

under the "application-click-com.ubuntu.developer.rschroll.beru_beru_1.0.0.log"

[1223/104421:ERROR:cache_util.cc(132)] Unable to move folder GPUCache to old_GPUCache_000
[1223/104421:ERROR:cache_creator.cc(132)] Unable to create cache
[1223/104421:ERROR:shader_disk_cache.cc(588)] Shader Cache Creation failed:-2

  • "- Can you navigate with the Contents from the toolbar menu?"

Navigating the "magnifying glass" menus, sort by "Title" or "Author", everything seems OK

  • "- Does this happen with all ebooks, or Just a few If it's just a few,?
Is There One You Could send me (rschroll at gmail)? "

An example of a downloaded book on laptop and transferred via USB to my tablet

http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/1981

In this book, the "Contents" menu -> and then clicking "Table of Contents" => this works well

By cons, if I click in the book on the link "Author's Note" it does not work, and I observe that "Beru" turns the page instead of accessing the link.

Thank you in advance for your help.

I didn't catch this the first time, but I suspect this may be part of
the problem. If I'm reading things right, this is only a proposed
image, not a promoted image, so it hasn't passed QA and may have quite
a number of things wrong with it. It seems to be rather old, too,
although the date you give disagrees with the date from
system-image.ubuntu.com (8 Nov). Is there a reason you're running this
particular image?

I meant to ask if external links from ebooks (to a publisher page, for
example) worked. That said, it's good to know about this crash, which
suggests there's something wrong with your image.

Those links work just fine in my testing. The fact that you're getting
a page turn means that the code detecting links isn't working correctly.

Right now, I suspect that there's a problem with Oxide in your
particular image. If you see this problem on other images,
particularly promoted images, please update this bug. For now, I'm
just going to leave this one open.

 Mr Schroll,

Here are the latest news about this problem.

Following your advice, I decided to force the migration to a stable image.

With the following command:

ubuntu-device-flash --wipe --channel=ubuntu-touch/ubuntu-rtm/14.09-proposed --bootstrap

After that, I use this setup:

Nexus 10 Tablet

Ubuntu touch Version 14... (Ubuntu Utopic Unicorm (development branch) - armhf (20141218-163635)

No dual boot Android / Ubuntu touch

I downloaded book(The Right to Read) on laptop and transferred via USB to my tablet

http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/1981

And i still have the same problem, in this book, the "Contents" menu -> and then clicking "Table of Contents" => this works well

By cons, if I click in the book on the link "Author's Note" it does not work, and I observe that "Beru" turns the page instead of accessing the link.

But the crash problem on my tablet, it seems to be gone until now

Thanks for trying that out so quickly. Good to know that the crasher
is gone.

I'm at a bit of a loss to figure out what could be causing this. I'll
try to think about what diagnostics might help us.

 Mr. Schroll

I want to bring you new information about my blue link problem.
Indeed, still convinced that this functionality working.
I decided to point to an older image.

And here is the command I used:

ubuntu-device-flash --revision 203 touch --channel = ubuntu-touch / utopic --bootstrap

And good news with this setup, i do not have blue link problem:

OS: Ubuntu 14.10 (R203) + Beru 1.0.0 Version number (Nov 7,2014)

Meanwhile, I've decided to stay on this configuration

Thank you in advance for your help.

I've just submitted a bug upstream with the likely culprit:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/oxide/+bug/1406007. If you experience this
problem again, please comment here or there.
