Can you give me examples of what you mean by filtered glasses and filtered overlays?

On page 14 of the Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies Body of Knowledge document (word document) under the section 'Color Blindness, it refers to "Filtered glasses , filtered overlays' as assistive technologies and methods.

Thanks. I asked because, depending on what is meant by the terms, filtered glasses and filtered overlays could also be used by those with low vision issues, either to increase contrast or to make things easier for those with photophobia. Again, depending on what is meant by the term, a filtered overlay could be used as a tool for assisted reading for those with cognitive disabilities. How about this?
