Fedora & EPEL updates 2026-04

Starting from Fedora 44, and in a few days in EPEL 9 & EPEL 10, ruby-build package has been split into several subpackages.

The idea behind this is to track better dependencies of each ruby type. For more details, see the Change proposal: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/SplitRubyBuild

Installing the base ruby-build package no longer pulls in every possible dependency. For example, ruby-build-ruby now contains the specific tools needed to build stable MRI/CRuby releases (the versions usually listed by rbenv install -l).

List of packages:

• ruby-build: Main meta-package; pulls in ruby-build-core and recommends ruby-build-ruby.
• ruby-build-core: Installs ruby-build executable, man pages, and the base directory structure.
• ruby-build-ruby: Installs definition for CRuby/MRI and its build dependencies.
• ruby-build-jruby: Installs definition for JRuby and its Java dependencies.
• ruby-build-mruby: Installs definition for mruby and its build dependencies.
• ruby-build-picoruby: Installs definition for PicoRuby and its build dependencies.
• ruby-build-truffleruby: Installs definitions for TruffleRuby and its build dependencies.
• ruby-build-others: Installs definitions for rbx, ree & artichoke.
• ruby-build-rbenv: Installs ruby-build as a plugin for rbenv.
• ruby-build-all: A meta-package that pulls in all definitions and all dependencies.
