pytest development sprint 2026I'm happy to announce that in collaboration with OMICRON, we are organizing another pytest development sprint, taking place July 20th to 24th (the week after Europython). (We are aware that this collides with EuroSciPy, but after a survey with pytest core developers, this was the best fitting date) Discussions in a separate repository will be used for organizing various aspects. InfosGiven some generous support by OMICRON (two big meeting rooms, reserved for the whole week), and given our OpenCollective balance of ~$84k USD, we will be able to host a maximum of ~25 people. The details will still need to be discussed, but the idea is that we (partially/fully) pay for travel and accommodation for participants from pytest funds, and OMICRON will offer free lunch for all participants. VenueThe sprint will be hosted by OMICRON in Klaus, Vorarlberg, Austria. Klaus is inhabited by a whopping ~3000 people. Despite being somewhat in the middle of nowhere, it's actually not too hard to reach:
If you're from outside Europe, you might want to combine this with a visit to Europython and then fly from Kraków to e.g. Zurich. ActivitiesObviously, we'll hack a lot on pytest! Exact topics will still need to be discussed, but of course we can also sprint on whatever participants find interesting, as long as it benefits pytest. We'll make sure to spend time socializing as well obviously. No details here either just yet, but we might have an evening barbecue at OMICRON's venues, and go for a hike or two together while we're there! Unfortunately, I won't be able to join. It took me a while to reply as I tried to sort out my schedule (and some accommodation from work) to make it happen, but end result is that I can't manage it this time around. An extra dev sprint + being up in the alps sounds like a ton of fun. Please enjoy! And I'll keep an ear out in future years. 🙂 |

Venue
The sprint will be hosted by OMICRON in Klaus, Vorarlberg, Austria. Klaus is inhabited by a whopping ~3000 people. Despite being somewhat in the middle of nowhere, it's actually not too hard to reach:
~2-2.5h from Zurich Airport, either:
1h 15min direct Eurocity to Bregenz, then 30min local train from there
10min local train to Zurich main station, 1.5h direct Railjet to Feldkirch, 10min local train from there
~1.25h by train from Friedrichshafen: Train to Lindau, train to Feldkirch, train to Klaus
~3h by train from Munich: 2h direct Eurocity train to Bregenz, 30min local train to Klaus
~6.5h by train from Vienna: just over 6h by direct train (Railjet), and then another 10 minutes in a local train

participation is open to anyone but the goal here is to work on pytest and/or the pytest ecosystem - this is not a training - its a development sprint |

If you're a core dev or significant contributor, or if you agree to pay your costs yourself (consider asking your employer if you're using pytest at work!), chances for acceptance are very high, unless we run out of space. If you want your costs to be paid from pytest funds, we still encourage you to apply (also if you're a beginner!), but demonstrating prior contributions to pytest or related projects, or showing that you're willing to start with your first pytest contribution during the sprint, will help. The form will ask you:
