Exploring Long term Project Contribution with xarray

Hi everyone! 👋

I’ve started contributing in xarray and really enjoy contributing to the project. Solving issues has been a great start, but I’m looking to work on a more substantial, long-term project that would help deepen my skills and also benefit xarray’s community and ecosystem. I’m especially interested in projects that push me toward being more involved with the core developers team and contribute in a meaningful way to the project’s future development.

Also, I feel there’s a strong opportunity for xarray to explore broader outreach and structured learning experiences like GSoC 2026 (Google Summer of Code), which could bring new contributors and ideas while also helping existing community grow.

I’d love guidance on how we might approach proposing ideas, shaping project proposals, or even initiating discussions around long-term development goals that align with both xarray’s roadmap and learning opportunities for contributors(like me). Looking forward to your thoughts and feedback!
